BIOGRAPHY

Christopher Davey became the honorary director of the Institute in 2002 after retiring from National Australia Bank where he was a project finance executive. He has been responsible for the Institute’s re-establishment at LaTrobe University after it ceased to operate in 1999.

Chris began his archaeology at Cambridge University and the Institute of Archaeology in London where he also studied ancient languages. He has dug in the Middle East, Australia and the United Kingdom. He has published papers in the history of mining and metallurgy and ancient architecture.

Having a background in mining engineering and surveying has enabled Chris to contribute a technical perspective to his historical studies while his many years in banking have equipped him to understand the economic dimension. Environmental implications have been important in Chris’ mineral industry and banking work and these together with his grounding in theology are being applied his current work.
